WELCOME To Australian Big Year

My Name is Charuka Abhayawickrama who happens to be a photographer become bird watcher.
I ended up doing an accidental big year of birding in 2022. I have seen 773 bird species and photographed 771 species within Australia and territories during 2022 calendar year.
I intend to share all my pictures and birding tales through this website. Right now I am catching on another adventure trip. There are more than 200,000 pictures need to be culled and processed. Please bear with me while I process them as time permits. For now I am sharing my bird list with locations and dates so you know where I have been in 2022 and what I have been up to.
People ask what is a Big Year?
A “Big Year” is a challenge to see as many species as possible between January 1st and December 31st of a given year. I took this to a new standard by only counting the birds that I managed to take photographs of. Therefore I believe 771 birds photographed is now the current record for Australia.

Here is a list of birds that I have photographed during 2022 during my Big year of birding in Australia.
